Several years ago, while bored out of my skull, I chatted with someone in a chatroom. It was nothing bad you understand, just interesting, friendly conversation. We emailed daily and IM'd for a few years. This person was a man and I really felt like we were good friends. He was always there for me and really helped me through my divorce. In short, he was a God Send. I found him when I really needed someone in my life.
5 years ago, I met someone and we have now been happily married for 4 years. When I met my husband, I chose to stop communicating with my friend. Even though my friend and I never even talked about anything inappropriate, I didn't feel it was right to continue the emails and chatting.
Today, while browsing on the internet for something completely unrelated I happened upon my old friends name. I checked it out for the hell of it and was stunned to find it was a website with a special dedication to him because he was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2006.
The website is that of one of his friend's. There are stories and dedications and pictures. It's very heartfelt. It occured to me that though I never met him, he had a very profound impact on my life and for that, I'm truly thankful. I wonder if he knew.
So, here's to the best friend I never met. Thanks for the kindness you showed a stranger and the laughter your messages always delivered. My memories are fond. You inspired me. Love and Godspeed.
Dedicated to the memory of James Brehmer 1971-2006
As for the rest of you, enjoy the ones you love. Don't suck and don't be boring!
Have an Awsome Day,
