"Parade" Magazine's 'What made 2007 memorable' issue headlines:
California Ablaze
Failing Bridges
Justice Department Shake Up (oh...there's a shocker)
Bonds: Hall of Shame
Iraq War Surges
Black Day in Blacksburg
Toxic Toys
Gore's Trophy Year
and Stem-Cell Breakthrough
What a sad list! I couldn't bring myself to read President Bush's "What made my year Special" article. There's a picture of him in the right-hand corner wearing a huge, picture-worthy smile; Washington Monument in the background. It's hard to look at that when the page opposite shows so much destruction. One photo in particular is hard to look at. A soldier holds his wife and the pain in her face rips at my heart. Look to your right Mr. Bush. That's the face of your war.
The stem-cell breakthrough is more positive, I guess. And, something that didn't make the list but I think should have...Plumpy'Nut. It's the miracle food made with peanut butter to be fed to people whose world is wrought with famine. This stuff is awsome! It saves lives! Oh, wait. It doesn't make politicians richer or create horrifying headlines...No wonder it didn't make the list.
Well, it's on my list! Let's see...what else made 2007 memorable to me? I found this blogspot. Family, friends, home, job, cat, dog, broken-down-again car, reading books with my kids, my hubby brought me dinner last night, family shopping trip to the after-Christmas-sale-packed mall. Wow, I can't begin to remember and list everything. I have it all. We're all healthy and reasonably happy. We don't want for anything.
My heart and prayers go out to all who have suffered. I pray a timely end to the war and the safe return to all the heroes defending us, wherever they may be stationed. My New Year's wish for myself and my family? May we always be as truly blessed as we are today and keep our faith when things are tough.
To everyone....
I wish you love and God's blessings, always...
Have a wonderful 2008!

Office Holiday Party and Mouth Running Morons...
Yesterday was supposed to be a good day. It was the day of our Christmas party for work. It's a day we all look forward to for several reasons. First, we all participate in fundraising activities throughout the year such as bake and craft sales and penny wars, which is a fun game of sabotaging other teams by donating money in jars. Pennies are positive points and all the rest take points away. You get the idea. Our Employee Relations Committee, who are all volunteers, do all the planning and the work and we always have great food, prizes and entertainment. And last night was no exception. The party was great, I won $25. and got to socialize with everyone.
Two things happened yesterday that really bothered me. The first was an offhand comment I overheard a co-worker make. And this was at work, not at the party. I'll get to the party later. She said, 'World Aids Day'. "They have aids and get a holiday for that?" She sounded angry and disgusted. I was shocked and disgusted to hear something so ignorant and offensive, especially from a person who's supposedly educated. She's a nurse, for Cripe's Sake. I so wanted to set her strait but I didn't. Work is no place to lecture someone about their stupidity.
Later that night, while most of us were laughing at our hypnotized co-workers flopping around like idiots, my husband and a few others were in the bar watching the game. He was standing there talking to one of our doctors and to a longtime family friend. One of our employee's husbands, who incidentally has a reputation for running his mouth and being a complete ass tried to start a fight with the doctor. He yelled racial slurs at him, calling him the N word several times and telling him to get out of our country because he's not American and threatening to kick his ass and God only knows what else. Not that he was going to get anywhere with the hubby and our friend and the bartender/owner who cut off his drinking and told him to leave. And old Doc would have given him some butt-whoopin', too. But it's the idea. What a piece of crap this guy is to attack someone like that.
Let me tell you something about this Doc. He's from the Middle East somewhere. I think. I never asked exactly where. I don't care. He's a great doctor and a great person. No matter a person's age, race, profession, life-style, or what ever, he treats everyone with respect and as equals. People like that are hard to come by. Oh, and by they way, Doc is an American. He's a citizen of this country. He's also served in the US Air Force. He's put his life on the line for his fellow Americans. The loser who went off on him never did anything except drink, do drugs and cause his family a lot of heartache and shame.
Last night, we had a good time at the party. I learned some things about a few people. I was reminded again of one of the things I love about my hubby. I said a prayer for my friend who was victimized by stupidity and I said a prayer for the one who needs desperately to learn humility.
My Christmas wish is this: May we all cherish each other
May we all share our differences in positive ways, and
May we all remember that God made us all equal
Happy Holidays!
Have an Awesome Day,
